5/8″ Scale Little Samson Traction Engine LHS
Today I’m thrilled to feature a delightful little model traction engine at 5/8″ to the foot that looks so much like a Little Samson engine, It could well have been modelled on that prototype.
Of course, it may not be a model of the Little Samson Traction Engine, but it’s so close in appearance I’m going to assume (rightly or wrongly) that it is.
This would make a fine first model of a traction engine, not only does it look good, it runs well on live steam too as shown in the video below.
The great news is that the creator of this model “myfordboy” has made castings and plans available to any budding builder. Just send an email to myfordboy at gmail.com .

The movie below shows how well the 5/8″ scale Little Samson Traction Engine runs under it’s own live steam.
The movie starts with detailing how to build an improved gas burner for the model, something I’m very interested in copying for my own 3/4″ scale model Burrell traction engine I’m building.
But stick with it until towards the end of the movie you see the Little Samson Traction Engine running under it’s own steam.

That is fine you can add the details to your site. I guess it does look like a Little Samson. I took elements from several engines for the design, I wanted cast wheels to simplify the construction.
I have made nearly 200 sets of castings for this model and a similar amount for my steam engine model. This one uses the same engine design.
A friend of mine is building the Little Samson in a smaller scale.
